Julie and Connor…. The engagement shoot that will live in INFAMY. Not because they aren’t a beautiful/fun couple, but because we STRANDED THEM OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIELD OF HAY. What had happened was…
There is a highway that separates our town from the next that is surrounded by beautiful fields, abandoned barns, railroad tracks, etc. on either side. When we drive down the highway, we’re always pointing out areas that would make great locations for a photo shoot. So, when we were talking with Julie about where her engagement photos will take place, we decided that because Julie and Connor are so laid back and easy going, they would be a great couple to just drive around with and stop when something caught our eye. So, we did. We began driving, and it wasn’t long before we pulled over and began the walk into a large field full of hay. The sun was starting to set, it was a wide open and secluded area – this was going to be PERFECT!
We snapped a few – the lighting was gorgeous, they were super cute together. Great. It was time to move on. That’s when it happened. Eric reached into his pocket to find his “dongle” as he calls is (this is what he calls his key fob for his car… no clue, don’t ask!) and it’s gone. This “dongle” is lost somewhere in about an acre of ankle deep hay. THE LITERAL NEEDLE IN THE HAYSTACK.
So here we were, on the side of the road, with no key to the car. And, of course, Jamie didn’t bring her keys with her, because that would make too much sense. Jamie called her dad for help. He wasn’t able to get away from what he was doing, but he send Jamie’s younger cousins to come pick her up, take her to our house while Eric stayed with Julie and Connor to continue shooting – but no house keys, remember? Jamie and her cousins broke into the house using their McGyver skills which included picking up the 8-year-old cousin and putting him inside an upstairs window. We were in. Jamie grabbed her keys, paid her appreciation to her cousins in Domino’s pizza left over from our shoot with Hannah and Selah (check it out here!) got in her car, and raced to pick up this poor couple from the side of Highway 11. WHEW! It was quite the stressful and embarrassing day.
To make it up to Julie and Connor, we took them out for wings and really enjoyed spending time with them. They only pointed out what a hot mess that we are a few times, and despite the craziness of the shoot, we think that their engagement photos turned out beautiful. We are excited for Julie and Connor’s carnival-themed wedding coming up in May, and we’ll try to make sure that nothing goes awry then!
