Happy birthday to the man who keeps me sane, makes me laugh and shows me love in more ways than I could ever deserve. Oh EJ, I am so thankful you were born, and I’m thankful I randomly prank called you as a 12-year-old girl because the last name “Gay” in our friend’s phone made me laugh. I’m thankful you remembered that prank call and introduced yourself at church one fateful Wednesday night. I’m thankful for the past eight years I’ve gotten to spend with you, and I’m thankful we’ve loved and laughed and fought with each other but fought even harder for each other. I’m thankful for you, Eric Gay – for your kindness, your leadership, your perfect smile, and yes, I’m so grateful for that last name.
I’m blessed by our marriage daily, and I’m continuously floored that you chose to spend forever with me. I’d still choose you a million times over. I’d say “I do” with more tears and excitement than I did the first time around, because now, over one year and two Eric birthdays into this marriage, I know the kind of husband you are. You’re a good husband and a good man – a phenomenal partner who has illustrated our wedding vows in more ways that I can count. My team mate and my confidant. I respect you and admire you so much, and I can’t wait to see where life takes us together.
There’s no birthday cake for you tonight. Just wedding cake in honor of the beautiful bride and groom we’re spending the day with. But, I know we wouldn’t have it any other way. I think it is so fitting that both of our recent birthdays have fallen on wedding days. We’re doing what we love, and we’re doing it together. Isn’t that perfect? As we watch our sweet new friends dance tonight, I am thanking God that I get to dance through life with you, and as we toast to the happy couple, know that I am saying cheers to 80 more birthdays with you.
I love you. Always, forever.
Jamie
