Katie and Ryan met in Spain while studying abroad. Katie is originally from Alabama, and Ryan is originally from Omaha, Nebraska. And somehow, someway, Spain is where their relationship began. Then, before their wedding, Katie was living in Virginia while Ryan was in Indiana. We love their love story – how their relationship started where they would both would have least expected it, and then they kept it alive and thriving through all the long distance and the travel. We know that they were so excited to finally marry and finally be together, and we know they would definitely consider each other #spainsbestsouvenir (their wedding hashtag!)!
Katie and Ryan’s ceremony took place at Third Presbyterian Church in downtown Birmingham, and their reception was held at the Caroline House on the campus of Briarwood Baptist Church. It was our first time shooting at Caroline House, and oh my goodness! It’s beautiful! It was the perfect location for Katie and Ryan’s garden party-esque wedding reception with the gorgeous grounds and landscaping. We’d certainly say that it’s one of Birmingham’s most beautiful and best kept secrets!
The sentiment and the emotion from this beautiful day is what we will remember most about it. The sleeves of Katie’s dress were made from her mother’s wedding dress and the reception was decorated with old family photos from both Katie’s and Ryan’s sides of the family. Ryan cried tears of joy as Katie walked down the aisle to him, and guests signed a travel book featuring the castles of Spain. Katie and her father danced an upbeat, carefree father-and-daughter dance that they had definitely practiced, and the cake was topped with a Spanish cake topper purchased from the country where their love began – where else!?
The Kammers are a fun, joyful, adventurous couple who we are honored to know, and we’re so thankful we were able to be a part of their special day. Congratulations, you guys! Cheers to a lifetime of love, laughter, and globe trotting!
