We’ve all been there. You’re sitting around the Thanksgiving Day dinner table with your family, when someone speaks up. Usually, it’s mom or grandmom, right? The one that suggests, “Let’s go around the table and name something that we are thankful for!” You start racking your brain because you want to say something deep, meaningful and true. In those short moments as your turn to speak draws near, you reflect on the past year and all the many things that are truly wonderful in your life. How do you pick just one?
Since there’s so much in life to be thankful for, here’s a little tip for the next time you’re put on the spot – just remember your wedding day. Remember your wedding day because that’s where everything and everyone you love, honor and will treasure forever was in the same place, at the same time. Your wedding day included these five very important factors that you’re so, so thankful for:
1) Your marriage and your spouse
That’s what the wedding day is all about – each other. The one person in this world that you’ve chosen to give forever, for better or for worse, for sickness and in health. Your one and only.
2) Your best friends
Your childhood BFFs and newly found soul sisters/brothers. Those incredible friends who still love you and support you no matter how busy life becomes or how bad you are at replying to text messages in a timely manner. These are the ride or die friends who feel so much like family.
3) Your immediate family
Your parents, siblings, grandparents. That core group of people who instilled in you your best qualities, your biggest flaws, and those weird little quirks. Who gave you life, taught you unconditional love, and probably wiped your hiney at least a couple of times. Oh, family.
4) Your friends, coworkers, extended family – all those who love you
Your circle of friends who you chat with around the water cooler and love to see on special occasions. New friends, old friends, family from out of town. You love them all, and you’re so glad they were able to celebrate with you at your wedding day.
5) Food and fun
Because who doesn’t love cake!? And champagne!? And dancing!? Any good celebration calls for all of the above, are we right? Joy and celebration are something to be thankful for.
We have so much to thank God for this year, and that includes you. Thank you for your love and support. Happy Thanksgiving!
