What a whirlwind month August was! It was one of the busiest and most fun months of the year so far, so there’s a lot to catch you guys up on! If you’re new to the #ejmonthlymashup, it’s a monthly blog post that sums up our life and all the happenings within it! We’d love if you’d follow along, beginning with January, which you can find here! Without further ado, here’s what August looked like for the Gays:
1) We went to New York!
Both of us have been to New York City in the past, but we’ve never had the full NYC “experience” together, so when we found a rare 6 consecutive days with nothing on the books, we were on Southwest.com before we could put the calendar down. We’ll be honest, though, NYC wasn’t our first choice. We originally thought about an all-inclusive resort, but we didn’t have time to get our passport situation straightened out. Our second choice was a trip back to Las Vegas for some desert sunshine, but the desert sun shines at 115º in August, so that was a big no! We looked at the temperature for NYC in August, saw that Southwest was having a sale, and two weeks later we were on a plane to the Big Apple!
Some of our New York highlights include seeing Cats on Broadway (which was EXCELLENT!), eating the most delicious plate of chicken and waffles we’ve ever had in Williamsburg, visiting the Brooklyn Cat Cafe, late night sing-alongs with the locals at a piano bar, seeing a show at The Comedy Cellar, visiting the 9/11 Museum and Memorial (every single person should do this!!), eating frozen yogurt about 15 times at Pinkberry, spending a rainy day sipping wine and snacking in Eataly, and visiting the Museum of Natural History.
2) We met Gary Vaynerchuk!
What do you do when you have dinner reservations before a Broadway show that you spent A LOT of money on, but as soon as you sit down for your dinner, you see that Gary Vaynerchuk will be having a meet-and-greet 30 minutes from you? You quickly get up and flee the restaurant hoping no one notices you and asks you where you’re going. No, we didn’t dine and ditch, we haven’t even had our drink orders taken. We literally sat down and got back up 20 second later, so stop looking at us with judgey eyes! We took a train just south of Little Italy to a juice bar where Gary would be, and that’s where the hashtags #Gaynerchuks and #TheGaysMeetGary were born!
A lot of our friends have no idea who Garyvee is, but our fellow entrepreneur/podcast loving friends know why we were so pumped! His podcasts and keynotes are full of wisdom and a great kick in the butt for anyone, but be aware of language! Don’t blast it at work or in front of your kids or your grandmother!
3) The Eclipse
If you didn’t witness the Solar Eclipse of 2017, you were living under a rock or couldn’t find eclipse glasses. Eric tracked some glasses down the morning of the eclipse because we were feeling some serious FOMO (“fear of missing out” for all of y’all not down with the abbreviations), and even Miss Pearl caught a glimpse of this rare event!
4) We worked hard.
When you go on vacation and only attend to time-sensitive emails, you do two things: Work like crazy before you leave and work like crazy after you return! That’s okay, though. We don’t mind because we love what we do! And if you love what you do, you never “work” a day in your life!
5) We shot 3 beautiful weddings!
Did we mention we love what we do?
6) More pictures of cats.
Because they’re weird.
Thanks for following along, friends! We’ll see you next month!
