Grand, majestic, elegant, regal, sophisticated… these are all words that describe Rebecca and Barry’s wedding to a tee. This year has been full of some amazing weddings, but since we sat down with Rebecca and Barry the first time, we knew that their wedding would be a highlight of our wedding season. First of all, the ceremony would be taking place at The Cathedral of St. Paul – the large, magnificent cathedral in Downtown Birmingham that houses some of the most beautiful weddings in town. Their reception was at the historic Tutwiler Hotel, which just so happens to be the phenomenal venue where we tied the knot back in February of this year. Trish and the team at the Tutwiler are so special to us, so we were so pumped to be back, and this time on the other side of the lens. To make it even more of a special occasion for us, Rebecca and Barry were using the same florist, DJ and makeup artist as we did, so we may be biased, but we think that this was an AWESOME wedding.
Everything about this wedding day was so classy, from the flowing bride’s bouquet and her Princess Kate inspired wedding dress with cathedral veil to the Catholic wedding mass and the Jaguar that would drive the couple from ceremony to reception. When the bride and groom and their guests arrived at the reception though, this group rolled up their sleeves and were ready to party. The dance floor was packed all night long, with the whole room getting down to “Born in the USA” and “Turn Down for What” especially. A highlight of the reception was a tradition known as “Ding Dong,” a German drinking song where wedding guests sang, danced in a circle and balanced their drinks on their head. It was so much fun to watch.
Something else that stood out to us was the love of these families. Most of Barry’s family was in town from Michigan, and they all seemed so proud of Barry and Rebecca. Barry’s two brothers, who were also groomsmen, gave beautiful and hilarious toasts and played an integral part in the reception shenanigans. Rebecca also had a big, loving family which included sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews making up the wedding party, and we were so glad to get to know them. It was absolutely a family affair.
From the first snap of the wedding dress to the sparkler send-off after midnight, Rebecca and Barry’s wedding was spectacular from start to finish. It was an honor to have been a part of such an amazing couple’s wedding day. Rebecca and Barry, we are so glad we were able to capture this moment in your life, and we’re so glad to now call you our friends.
