We left Jamie and Mitchell’s wedding quoting Ice Cube, y’all. “Today was a good day.”
We love Jamie and Mitchell, and we knew their wedding day would be nothing short of incredible. It’s in the way they love each other. Their first look was priceless, and the heart-felt letters they wrote each other would have caused anyone to get a little misty eyed. It’s also in the way they love their families. We watched as they gave their mothers the most precious gifts, as Jamie honored her late father by having a piece of one of his ties sewn into the inside of her wedding dress, and as Mitchell’s mom held Jamie amidst sobs and “I’m so glad my son found you,” and “I love my new daughter so much.” There was a lot of tears, even more laughter, and so much love to go around. Like we said, a good day.
And a beautiful day. From Jamie’s ridiculously stunning ivory lace wedding gown and cathedral veil (that was worn by Jamie’s mother on her wedding day!) to the gorgeous garden bouquets and gold sequin decor, every detail was gorgeous! And the venue! We absolutely love shooting at the Sonnet House in Leeds. A big, beautiful WHITE house (give us all the white!!) with impeccable landscaping, a stunning ceremony space, the perfect reception area (rain or shine!), and the cherry on top, a phenomenal staff to work with… what else could we ask for?
During the ceremony, the preacher, who Jamie described as a father figure in her life, had the couple turn around and face their wedding guests. He then explained to the guests and to the couple what an amazing commitment marriage is, not only to the couple, but for their friends and family. Their marriage is something that they should take seriously and that they should fiercely protect. As Jamie and Mitchell looked into the eyes of their 200 closest family and friends, the guests made vows as well, to support this couple and their marriage. We love being present for ceremonies like that. The ones where the officiant beautifully explains the weight of marriage, the couple squeezes each others’ hands in affirmation, and the guests nod in agreement and wipe away tears of joy. Oh my gosh, you guys, we LOVE our job.
The reception was a party filled with dancing to tunes from the wedding band, Doctors and Lawyers (appropriate because Jamie is in the medical field and Mitchell is a lawyer!), lots of cake and popsicles from Steel City Pops. Guests of all ages hit the dance floor and Mitchell’s brother even played drums with the band for a few songs! Then, guests showered the new bride and groom with dried lavender as they got in the antique Jaguar and headed their tropical honeymoon in St. Lucia! The perfect end to the perfect day.
Jamie & Mitchell – you guys know how we feel about you! You’re the kind of couple who makes us pinch ourselves. This is what we do for a living!? We get to take pictures of beautiful people with beautiful souls like you guys. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
