Y’all. The first quarter of 2017 is over. Can you believe that!? Wedding season has geared up, and this one snuck up on us! It feels like we just wrote the February edition of the Monthly Mashup yesterday. How was that not yesterday!?
So much has happened in the first three months of the year, including a lot of little things that would be easy to forget without this blog series. We appreciate you following along with us! We have to admit, we’re a little dissapointed in ourselves, because our personal photography skills have only gotten slightly better. April, though, will be better! Someone hold us to it! We’re going to document everything!!
Without further ado, here’s what March looked like for the Gays.
1. We bought some new furniture.
Our last house had a much smaller living area than our current one, so our smaller TV stand looked so sad against our large wall. You’d think that having such a long and tall wall would be great, right? Well, it is, but it also means that normal-sized TV stands look puny against it. So our search began for a large TV stand that wouldn’t break the bank. Wayfair.com, Target, World Market, the list goes on, and we can’t find anything that speaks to us until we had an off day and decided to visit a furniture store about 20 miles outside of Birmingham. We were almost walking out the door when Eric spotted this piece out of the corner of his eye. The measurements were right, the price was right, and it came in gray. Bingo! We LOVE it! We also purchased a new gray couch to match our current one along with a gray and white area rug, (we like gray…have you seen our website?) and now we feel the space is starting to really come together! We can’t wait to post about more additions in the coming months!
2. We were given one of the sweetest gifts we’ve ever received.
The historic Tutwiler Hotel holds such a special place in our hearts, because it’s where we got married. From our first meeting with them when considering a venue, we fell in love with the history, the beauty, and the staff (if any of you have ever met Trish, you know she’s amazing!). Fun fact: we were actually the first couple to have a wedding – our reception, to be exact – in the upstairs ballroom since it was transformed from a floor dedicated to storage. And since we’ve become wedding photographers, we’ve had the privilege of shooting at the Tutwiler many times, which brings back such sweet memories of our wedding day. So, you can imagine our surprise and emotion when our sweet friend Becky surprised us with this gorgeous watercolor painting of the Tutwiler by Ruth Oneya Illustrations! We were floored! So thoughtful! This is something we will cherish and hang on our wall forever! Thank you, Becky!
3. We led the March Tuesdays Together meeting.
March marked our second month co-leading The Rising Tide Society’s Birmingham chapter of Tuesdays Together, a monthly meetup of local creatives to inspire one another and help each other grow in business and life. Conversation got deep, and we were amazed by all the wisdom shared! We’re so thankful for this group that came to join us on an unseasonably FREEZING night to discuss financial freedom! We even grew by a few attendees! And another big thanks to Heidi Elnora for allowing us to set up shop at The Changing Room. What a beautiful venue! We hope any local Birmingham-area creatives and small business owners will join us at the next meeting!
4. We “went to the beach.”
We were honored when we were asked to shoot the wedding of the sister of one of our past brides in Niceville, Florida, which is just north of Destin. After shooting Julia and Mike’s gorgeous wedding, we stayed the night and decided to drive down to Destin to do a little shopping at an outlet mall, grab some lunch, and hang out at the beach for a while before making the five hour drive back home. The shopping was great, the lunch was great, but once again we were hit with an unseasonably cold day at the beach! We were bundled up in sweatshirts and jackets while crazy people laid on the beach barely clothed in 50 degree weather! We’re sure the water felt more like snow because there wasn’t a soul to be found wading even ankle deep. Nevertheless, we soaked it in and enjoyed the beautiful views of the gulf coast. We love its white beaches!
5. We took selfies with other people’s animals.
This one kind of speaks for itself. We spent time with our best friends, Katie & Calvin, and their little girl, Florence, and cuddled up to their cat, Elfaba. Then, on a trip to Chattanooga for our sweet couple Pam & Alex’s engagement session, Jamie converted to a dog person thanks to Gatsby the King Charles Spaniel.
6. We took more photos of our cats.
You guys know the drill by now. First, we took some suuuuper artsy photos of our model cats.
And then some just down right adorable ones.
7. We shot three incredible weddings.
March was a dream. First, Meredith and Dan tied the knot at Park Crest in Hoover, Alabama with help from I do, I do Wedding Planning, and it was amazing Next, Julia and Mike, our Florida wedding we mentioned earlier, went off without a hitch. And lastly, to finish out the month, Elizabeth and Cooper had the most elegant black tie affair at Vestavia Country Club planned by M. Elizabeth Events. March 2017 will go down as an INCREDIBLE month of weddings!
