WHERE DID APRIL GO?!?
We feel like it was only yesterday that we hit “publish” on our last Monthly Mashup blog post, yet here we are again! Maybe it was the weather warming up and us spending more time outside, maybe it was all the spring cleaning and organizing, or maybe it was due to wedding season ramping up, but April seemed to fly by. What a month, though! So many fun things happened in April, and we can’t wait to share!
1) A date night at the opera.
Ok, not a REAL opera. Just the one about a disfigured phantom in love with a girl who sings in the opera. We took an evening off to have dinner at one of our favorite downtown Mexican restaurants, Cantina Laredo, and to go see the Broadway tour of the Phantom of the Opera, and we loved it! This is our second time to see the production, the first time being when we had just started dating. Those songs were stuck in our head for weeks, literally. As a matter of fact, just writing about it put those songs back in our head again. Highlights of the show: We had nosebleed seats, which meant that the lights from the stage were just dim enough to send Eric to snooze-town. Multiple times. Whoops. Another notable moment was when the lady sitting next to Eric cried three times during the show. She just loved that Phantom so much.
2) We 5K’ed for Pancreatic Cancer.
A friend of ours was personally affected by Pancreatic Cancer, so when we heard that are friends at Becky’s Brides were taking part in the 5K to raise money for the cause, we were happy to join their team! We loved being a part of the day to honor those who fought and celebrate the survivors!
3) We cleaned out our garage!
That might not sound like an accomplishment to many, but to us, it’s a big deal. When we moved into our new house in October, we did a lot of organizing as we were moving. But then we got to a point where we said, “just put it in the garage.” Eventually, we’d gotten sick of having an unorganized mess of a garage and decided to dedicate an entire two days to cleaning and organizing. We’re now able to park our cars inside the garage! Where they’re supposed to go! Happy day!
4) April’s Tuesdays Together meeting.
This month’s meeting was on personality types. The topic was really insightful and the conversation was on point. It’s such a great group and we so love being co-leaders! Birmingham is full of some amazing creative small business owners! And a special thanks goes out to Studio Bham for hosting us!!
5) We attended our first baseball game of the season.
Eric played baseball as a kid but admittedly was an average player at best. And even though he doesn’t keep up with the sport like he wants, he’s always down for an evening out watching America’s favorite pastime. We had a great time with friends watching the Birmingham Barons, our minor league team, face off against the Montgomery Biscuits. Yep, the Biscuits. You can imagine the heckles coming from the stands. “Come on, Barons, butter those Biscuits!” Unfortunately, we lost, but it was a Friday night, so that means we were treated to a huge fireworks show, so that was fun!
6) Jamie had surgery.
This isn’t as dangerous as it sounds, but we bet the word “surgery” caught your eye! Long story short, a bug bite at our first wedding this month led to some weird human body stuff that put us in the doctors’ office stat! Jamie wore a bandaid on her forearm for a few weeks and told some people it was a curling iron burn, but now the world knows the truth! As you can see by the photo, Jamie appears to be traumatized by the whole procedure.
7) We were interviewed for a podcast!
We sat down for a chat with Cinnamon and Paul Wolfe as part of the Focus(ed) Podcast where we discussed the topic of infusing your personality into your business, which we believe is so important to running an authentic business. Why try to be someone else when you can you?! We never thought we’d be the ones actually ON a podcast, so this was a huge honor. To hear the podcast, click here! 8) A Chipotle opened ridiculously close to our house.
We love tacos. Any time, any day, any where! But, Chipotle’s tacos hold a very special place in our hearts. And now, there is a Chipotle right next to our house!! Within 5 minutes, we can be standing in line waiting for a delicious burrito bowl and the yummy chips with hot salsa that hurts so good!! As you can see from this ridiculous stack of napkins, we ate there quite a few times in April, and we’re not one to waste good paper products!
9) We’ve committed to a workout group!
To combat the expanding waist line that a close-to-home Chipotle may bring, we’ve been attending a Y-Cross class at our local YMCA. We love the class because it kicks our tail and because of the community. It gives us that extra boost to keep going when we would probably stop if we were by ourselves, and it’s always fun to work out with friends!
10) Wedding season started to gear up!
Wedding season also means engagement session season! As the weather gets beautiful, sessions get scheduled! We test our lighting on each other, and we usually end up with some goofy photos. Eric usually cuts the cake, even when there isn’t any cake. Jamie, on the other hand, pretends she has an imaginary lover.
11) Four incredible wedding days.
The Thompsons, The Walkers, The Kellys and The Harts all tied the knot in April! And, can you believe it!? They ALL had beautiful weather in the month that coins the term “April showers!”
12) We realized how much our cats like laying in the sun.
Find a patch of sun coming through the windows, you’ll likely find a cat basking.
Thanks for reading, friends! We hope you’ll stick around for the next installment of the Monthly Mashup!
